Petco Park General Information

Ticket Availability (PRE COVID):
Attendance at Padres games has fluctuated over the past few years, driven by the team's performance. Still, over 2.4 million fans were in attendance as recently as 2015. Expect the stadium to be filled to about 65-75% capacity on most days. While there still will be many tickets available through the Padres box office, note that the Padres use dynamic pricing to maximize revenue...meaning prices will be different depending on the opponent, day of the week, and how far in advance you purchase. The best deals are often for some of the best seats being re-sold by season ticket holders and brokers (often at a discount) on reputable websites such as Ticket Network and Ticket Liquidator. For a deeper review of the top 5 ticket brokers and discounts, please visit BestBallParkSeats.
Sun vs Shade:
Right field is generally the "sun field", so if you are looking for shade, your best bet is along the 3rd base line, although most seats are exposed to the elements. The Padres actually have published a Sun vs Shade guide, to be used a s general guideline, which can be found here.
Reselling Tickets ("scalping"):
Reselling tickets at any price on Petco Park property is prohibited.

RECOMMENDED

Premier Club A-L
These are seats behind homeplate in the upper half of field level. These seats are extra wide and conveniently located to a number of amenities. Tickets in these sections can be found for under $100 on Ticket Network. See the sidebar for coupon codes for even more savings.

Toyota Terrace 201-210:
These are Club-Level seats that offer a perfect birds-eye view of all the action, and these sections are located between the dugouts. We've found these on Ticket Liquidator for around $50 for midweek games in the past.

Best Value Seats at Petco Park

Relatively speaking, Padres tickets are very affordable, so I would suggest buying the best seats your budget can afford. However, if you are looking for a steal, these seats are good mix of view and price:

Upper Infield Reserved 300-312:
These are usually priced very close to the lowest get-in price at under $20, despite the fact that these seats are on the upper level of the infield. It is much preferable to sit here rather than in similarly price Right Field Upper Reserved or Upper Pavilion seats, which are in the outfield or near the foul pole.

Right Field/Left Field Lower Box 126-137:
These seats on the lower level, just beyond the home run fence are also great for catching balls during batting practice. The even numbered sections 126-134 are in left field, also close to both team's bullpens. The odd sections 129-137 are in right field, but the BOX section only comprises the first few rows; note that there are about 20 more rows above these, in Right Field "Lower Reserved" sections. The price differential is usually not too great, so we recommend the Box seats. Also, note that there is a party section just in front of the right field sections, so you are not directly on the fence...there are a few rows of other people between you and the field. Still great value, but if you are looking to be right on the fence, left field sections would be your best bet. Tickets in all of these sections can be bought in the $25 range normally, and Ticket Network usually has a good selection of these tickets.

Best Seats for Families at Padres Games

RECOMMENDED

Bleachers:
Unfortunately, the bleachers and beach adirondack chairs are no longer part of Petco Park as of the 2015 season, and have been replaced by group seating and fence advertising. The beach play area has been located out of harms way...we will update this section once we get back to San Diego for more "research".

Best Seats for The Social Scene in Petco Park

RECOMMENDED

Western Metal Rail:
Similar to sitting on the Green Monster at Fenway Park, you are in some of the more limited seats in the ballpark. Only 30 seats, plus 20 standing-room only spots are available on this deck attached to the side of the Western Metal Supply building. These seats also give you access to inside the building, where there is a bar area where that other fans can also access.

Best Seats for Impressing Guests at Petco Park

RECOMMENDED

Lexus Home Plate Club Sections 0-6:
Lexus Home Plate Club are the first 5 rows of high-back padded luxury seats behind home plate and between the dugouts. These tickets include unlimited food and drinks, in-seat service, and access to the Home Plate Club Restaurant and Lounge. The lounge is decorated in a very classic, dark wood, dimly-lit ambiance, which offers a view to the indoor batting cages. The included food and drink consists of beer, wine, and liquor, as well as a buffet with a carving station.

Premier Club A-L:
As mentioned above, these provide one of the best views of the game in the stadium. These are wider, padded seats which provide access to the Omni Premier Club and offer in-seat service. These are quite affordable at under $75 each, and sit in the shade for most of the game. We've found many of these seats on Ticket Network for $75 and below, all in.

Best Seats for Getting a Baseball at Petco Park

RECOMMENDED

126-134 Left field Lower Box seats:
Bring your glove, because this is the place to be during batting practice (or games) to catch homeruns. These seats are located in left field and are the most reachable seats from right handed batters. Gates open 90 minutes before gametime, so you'll be able to watch the last 45 minutes of the opponent's batting practice (the Padres will be finished as you enter the stadium). You'll probably want to be no more than midway up the sections to maximize your opportunity at getting a ball, either off the bat of the hitter, or tossed up to you from one of the outfielders. Most "ballhawks" stand on the aisle to improve access to other rows and adjacent sections. Note that teams often skip batting practice before day games, especially late in the season and/or following a night game.

Best Seats for Getting Autographs in Petco Park

RECOMMENDED

Sections 108-118 and 109-119:
These sections are just to the outfield side of each dugout. The Padres dugout is on the 1st base line, so you'll want to get to sections 109-119 as soon as gates open 90 minutes before gametime to maximize your opportunity for autographs. The opponents dugout is on the 3rd base side, and section 114 is often the best spot to catch a player on his way back to the dugout after warmups. For night games, the road team will be taking batting practice from the time you enter the gates until 45 minutes before gametime, so be here then to get their autographs. Once inside Petco Park, all tickets have access to all sections - up until batting practice ends (45 minutes before gametime), at which time you may be asked to move to your seat.

Unique seats at Petco Park

Western Metal Rail:
The Western Metal Warehouse building in left field may be the most iconic part of Petco Park, and similar to the Green Monster at Fenway Park, there are seats available to the public on this landmark. There are 30 actual seats on the rail just below where Western Metal Supply is painted with a spot to put your food and drink, with an additional standing room area closer to the brick wall itself for 20 more fans. The seats go for about $35, and come with wait service and easy restroom access inside the building. The view of the game is not as bad as you might expect.
